. Be able to record fingerprints and identify whirl, loop and arch forms in the fingerprint.

. Be able to carry out paper chromatography in ink or fibre tip pen.

Assessment criteria
(What the learner need to demonstrate in order to meet the learning outcome)
The learner can:
- Use an ink pad to record their own fingerprints
- Identify loops, whirls and arches in their own fingerprints or from a prepared example
- Use a filter paper strip to prepare a sample for chromatography using ink or fibre tip pen
- Suspend the chromatography strip and use water or other solvent to carry out the chromatography process
- Judge when to remove the chromatogram from the solvent
- Compare several chromatograms and identify which have been produced from the same ink/pen
