The learner will:

  • 1 .  

    Be able to record fingerprints and identify whirl, loop and arch forms in the fingerprint.

  • 2 .  

    Be able to carry out paper chromatography in ink or fibre tip pen.

Assessment criteria

(What the learner need to demonstrate in order to meet the learning outcome)

The learner can:

  • Use an ink pad to record their own fingerprints
  • Identify loops, whirls and arches in their own fingerprints or from a prepared example
  • Use a filter paper strip to prepare a sample for chromatography using ink or fibre tip pen
  • Suspend the chromatography strip and use water or other solvent to carry out the chromatography process
  • Judge when to remove the chromatogram from the solvent 
  • Compare several chromatograms and identify which have been produced from the same ink/pen
