Assessment criteria
(What the learner need to demonstrate in order to meet the learning outcome)
The learner can:
- Create their own boat out of a range of given materials
- Predict whether they think it will float or sink
- Test their boat on water to see if it floats and record their findings
- Make an edit to theirs or a peer’s boat to improve its floatation
- Test the buoyancy of different natural objects (e.g., which natural materials float or sink)
- Test the strength of different materials (e.g., tin foil, tissue paper, plastic bag, toilet paper) by making a bridge to balance wooden blocks
- Predict which material they think will be the strongest
- Make a record of how many blocks each material held
