Assessment criteria

(What the learner need to demonstrate in order to meet the learning outcome)

The learner can:

  • Use a search engine to find lists of dog friendly foods
  • Explain why the sources they have used to verify the safety of foods are reliable
  • Visit a shop or use an online shopping website to purchase the foods they have decided to potentially include in their recipe
  • Keep a receipt or other written record of the cost of each food item & the weight purchased
  • Create a tester batch of training treats,  measuring and recording quantities of each ingredient as they go
  • Discuss with an appropriate person how the tester batch has turned out and how the recipe should be adapted to counter any problems with the previous batch (such as add more liquid or bake at lower temperature)
  • Make as many tester batches as required until a treat has been created which the learner is happy with
  • Demonstrate good food hygiene including washing hands before and after cooking and keeping raw and cooked ingredients separate
  • Demonstrate weighing the tester batch, then calculate how to upscale the recipe to make a batch of treats weighing as close to 200g as possible
