- Stay quiet and show they are listening in their own way while someone talks for a short time 20 - 60 seconds
- Say or choose an image of what the person was talking about e.g. a person, place or thing
- Name a peer who they would like to ask a question to
- Use a clear voice to ask the question, a model can be provided
