The learner can:
- Identify at least three signs that show an animal might be injured or unwell (e.g. limping, bleeding, not eating, swelling, unusual behaviour)
- Match common first aid situations with examples (e.g. small cut, broken claw, heat stress)
- State why it is important to act calmly and safely when an animal is hurt
- Describe what actions could be taken in a minor situation (e.g. cleaning a small wound, moving the animal to a quiet area, contacting a supervisor)
- Demonstrate a simple first aid procedure safely under supervision, such as applying gentle pressure to stop bleeding or cleaning a small wound with water
- Identify basic first aid items used in an animal care setting (e.g. bandage, antiseptic wipe, gloves) and explain what they are used for
